Black Markings or Spots

and Bed Bugs!

Bed Bugs Black Markings.

This is a zoomed-in view of a portion of a mattress. You are looking at the piping at the edge of it.

In the depression along the piping, you see, roughly ten plus, adult and baby bed bugs.

Generally speaking, the Black Markings produced by the fluid like Feces of bed Bugs are the most prominent tell tale sign that there is a Bed Bug presence!

On non absorbent surfaces, these excrements appear as dots, just like ink would. And on absorbent fibres of a mattress fabric material, this excrements fluid bursts into the fibres, just like ink would.

The Red Spots are produced when a Bed Bug is inadvertently crushed by the movement of a host, typically a human, and typically tossing and turning in bed. In this photo such a spot is not obviously present.

Top down view of a portion of a bed frame shows two cross planks with holes for screws. Bed Bugs nest in these depressions in the wood and habitually produce their black excrements near this nesting spot.

These black marks are the give away sign of their presence and a tremendous help in troubleshooting mysterious biting or itching that a human host may be experiencing when sleeping in this bed.

Drying Patterns of Liquid Excrement:

  • On less absorbent materials, the liquid dries in a circular shape as it pools and solidifies.

  • On more absorbent materials (like porous wood), the liquid is drawn into the fibers, drying as streaks rather than circular marks.
